New Figure

I thought I would put up a quick post for those who don't follow me on twitter where I have been putting posting updates.

I am Currently working a new figure called Zombie Toast. This is the 1st figure that a I'm producing in bulk along with a handmade display box.

Each 2" body is hand sculpted from vinyl clay and hand painted. The faces are printed on plastic to ensure the continuity of each figure and placed in a handmade, signed box. The first run of 20 will be available for $12 each. After the 1st 20 are gone, Sleepy Robot 13 will begin to take pre-orders for the 2nd batch, that will be released at the middle to end of December. The sales of these figures will be put toward getting a small run of vinyl figures made.

I will be making the finishing touches to the figures and packaging early this week and hope to have them available for sale starting Thursday or Friday.

I will post again soon once I've figured out the sale date.

New Toys 4 Me!

So after a loooooong hiatus of not purchasing any new item for my personal toy collection I came across Kraven Toys . They offer free shipping on all orders $25 and over, so I decided to look around. I figured free shipping was enough to get me to make a purchase as now a days shipping can cost more than the actual product! I ended up buying 4 things:

1 x BIC Buddy - Artist Series 1 Blind Box
1 x Teddy Troop Series 3 : Fortress (Pink)
1 x Dunny UK : Tryclops (Blue)
1 x Buff Monster 3" Series 2 Figure #1

Not bad for $48.85. I will definitely be visiting this site again soon!

Meet Scary Beary!

This is an example of what happens when you put a toxic waste dump next to a toy store... Beary never noticed he was any different than the other fluffy friends on the shelves of the toy store, but always wondered why people ran when he asked for a hug.

Completely hand sculpted. Stands just over 3"

Beary is part of my "Deadsley Bear series". Most Deadsley bears are one of a kind.

Beary is available in my shop now Here.

I Googled Myself & I Liked It!

Wow that title sounds so much dirtier than it really should. So while bored I typed
"Sleepy Robot 13" into Google and found myself on a few websites and blogs, including one site that tracks Etsy users who are turning their shops into full fledged businesses. Most of these pages seem to be takes off of the feature Plastic and Plush did on my figures.

Plastic and Plush Review

Today the toy website plasticandplush.com did a write up on my figures. I have to admit it was kinda cool to see my work on their main page right underneath the awesomely amazing Bruce Campbell action figure!

Odd Requests And Baghead Boy

So a guy ordered my baghead boy figure today and asked that it be shipped anonymously to someone... ok, yea that's fine. He asked that I send no trace that the item was from him. Now where it gets weird is, the guy asked me to enclose the theme song from Three's Company with the figure... ok I'm sure it's some kind of inside joke, but really??? Three's Company? I get requests to enclose notes and thank you cards with orders all the time, but so far this is the weirdest.

Oh and if you've forgotten the lyrics again are:

Come and knock on our door.....
We've been waiting for you......
Where the kisses are hers and hers and his,
Three's company too.

Come and dance on on our floor......
Take a step that is new.....
We've a lovable space that needs your face,
Three's company too.

You'll see that life is a frolic and laughter is calling for you......
Down at our rendez-vous,
Three's company, too!!!!!!

New site

I am currently working on a new official website that I hope to have online within the next week or so. Please keep checking back here for new updates.

I've Been Blogged About

Today I received two messages through Etsy Convo from awesome people who have blogged about some of my items. First http://www.seemegshop.com/2009/10/30/friday-ramblings/ posted about how much she loved the earrings her husband bought her from my etsy jewelry shop sugaredwithspite.etsy.com . She says that she has been wearing the same diamond earrings she received from her husband on her wedding day since that day, but took them out because she wanted to wear the new earrings that badly.

Next http://www.sewcupcake.blogspot.com/ featured my Sleepy Robot Figure in her "Whacky Wednesday- Cute gifts for children". Though I really appreciate her featuring one of my items, I will just say I do not recommend giving any of my figures to children as they are fragile. This is the 2nd blog in the last few weeks to feature my Sleepy Robot.

Mini Monsters Are Here!

I recently realized that a lot of my figures seem sad and lacking spirit. I'm not always sad and in a dark mood so I figured neither should my figures! That"s when I created mini monsters. They're happy, upbeat and colorful. Oh and did I mention they've come for our food? Mostly our ice cream cakes and pies. They are available now at sleepyrobot13.etsy.comet

New Earbuds

I have just posted some new custom earbuds I've been working on in my shop. Here's a preview. Buds are available for $11 at sleepyrobot13.etsy.com

My Thong Made Me Lose Weight

So I'm moving into a new apartment soon so over the last month and a half I have been organizing and packing. While doing so I came across one of my favorite thongs I haven't worn in a looooonnnng time. It's black and white striped with glittery cherries on the front. Just for shits and giggles I decided to try it on... I couldn't even get it up over my thighs. Granted I knew I still had a lot of baby weight to drop I didn't think I was still that big. I had gained 64lbs while pregnant with my son. I was 210lbs 2 days before having him (My usual weight is around 150).

So not being able to fit into my favorite thong inspired my to loose some weight. So far in the last 2 weeks I've lost about 5lbs. I'll keep you updated on my progress!

Oddmall = BUST!

Though I'm sure several others did well, Oddmall was a bit of a bust for me. I made back my $100 booth fee but only a little over half of my supply cost. Unfortunately the way the Clarion Hotel in Hudson is set up visitors didn't realize that after the main room there were 3 other rooms! All of us in room 2 were brooding most of the day because we didn't see that big of a flow of people that room 1 did. I can imagine room 3 and 4 were the same. Andy who put the event on tried to move traffic along to the other rooms, did so without much success. The majority of my sales came from other vendors. I believe if I had been in the main room I would have turned a profit. It was my own fault though I found out about the show late and booked my booth late. I was lucky to even get into room 2 as most of the spots were taken. If I choose to do the show again next year I will book earlier.

All in all despite dismal sales I met a lot of cool artists and got some good advise on events I should and shouldn't set up at. One person told me he did well at October fest of all places with his horror art. He said that he made $4000 over the weekend there.

Anyways lesson learned! Now I'm hitting the internet to find more Indie craft shows and conventions coming up in the near future to peddle my wares lol! If anyone knows of anywhere please let me know (:
