It's Been AWHILE!!!

Hi everyone! Anyone still here??? I know it has been a long time since my last post here but I assure you I am still around. 2012 was a very CRAZY year with the opening and unfortunate closing of my retail store (bad timing, bad location, bad economy, blah, blah, blah), health and personal issues. It was a rough year, but hey you live and you learn!

NEW SHOP! 2013 is a new beginning and I've got A LOT in the works for the upcoming months! First I have launched a new shop "Sleepy Zombie 13." Here you will find one of a kind zombie related sculptures as well as other one of a kind art work that doesn't really fit my Sleepy Robot shop. There will also be cards, plush, jewelry and T-shirts available there soon as well!

Stickam/Youtube LIVE video Casts I have launched a Stickam site. I will from time to time stream live videos from my studio of contest announcements, tutorials, Q&As and sometimes me just working on robots. I will try to post something on the official Sleepy Robot 13 Facebook page when I am broadcasting. You can follow my live stickam casts HERE. I will still periodically post videos on the Sleepy Robot 13 Youtube page. If you haven't subscribed you can do so HERE!

Official Site Update In addition to this blog, sleepyrobot13.com has not been updated in AGES! I will be working on that a lot in the next week or so. Eventually I'd like to do a complete overhaul and new design for the site.

2013 Valentine's Day Robots I have a ton of new Valentine's/love themed robots available in the shop. These are VERY limited, only 3-6 of each robot was made and they are only available January-February or until they sell out. Once they are gone, they're GONE! You can check out all of the Valentine's robots currently available HERE. Gift Guides: I have gotten many emails in the past from customers wanting recommendations for which robot they should get for their moms, dads, boyfriend/girlfriend, bff, ect. I think I have come up with an easy solution for this using Etsy treasuries to create gift guides. I am going to try to make a guide for the major holidays and individual people you may have in your life (ie. Co-workers, friends,parents, significant other, ect.) I am going to try to make all of these gift guides available in one section on sleepyrobot13.com soon. For an example please check out my Valentine's Gift Guide.

Robot Of the Month Through out 2013 I will be adding a new robot to the shop that will be available for 1 month only or until it sells out. There will only be 6-12 of each robot made available. They will be first come first serve and once they are gone, they are gone for good. This includes recreating them for custom orders. I will be posting the first limited edition robot the last week of January.

Sleepy Robot 13 Updates!

I know I haven't updated this blog in awhile, but I promise I will get better about it soon!. If you haven't already please go "LIKE" Sleepy Robot 13 on Facebook (www.facebook.com/sleepyrobot13). I tend to update more often there then here. I have been insanely busy with getting the store set up, ordering additional inventory and equipment, tracking down inventory that is apparently lost somewhere in japan, painting, hanging shelves, finishing custom orders on the waiting list, getting ready for show season and so much more.

I am currently shooting for April 21st for the Grand Opening assuming everything goes well. All of the fixtures are in and set up. The majority of my inventory (items other than my robots) should be delivered tomorrow afternoon. I will try to upload more pictures once I get things a little more together.

There will be new robots added to the Etsy shop in about a week and local customers expect a collection of exclusive limited (only 5-10 each) robots that will be in store only items available during the grand opening.

Its official! Sleepy Robot 13 will be opening it's retail location @ 13345 Madison Ave. Lakewood, Ohio early 2012.




The Sleepy Robot 13 will carry all of my handmade robots, figurines, toys, jewelry, buttons T-shirts and totes. In addition I will also be selling Robot themed novelties, jewelry, plush, art prints, vinyl toys and more!

The lease is signed and the wholesalers are confirmed, but I still need a little help!

Store fixtures, cash registers and printers are very expensive.. I currently have a lot of $$$ invested in the store and will need a little more for it to reach it's full potential.

Please STOP Stealing My Designs!

As I am seeing an increasing number of copies of my robots popping up on Etsy and Artfire I must reiterate that Sleepy Robots are copyrighted and reproducing them in anyway for sale is copyright infringement. When I say copying I don't mean just the shape and style. I have found several shops on Etsy blatantly reproducing them and claiming them to be their original designs. I don't mind if you are making copies of my bots to keep for yourself as I have seen on a few other sites, but if you are planning on selling them keep them off Etsy, Artfire... in fact keep them off line! If I don't see them myself someone else will point me in your direction. I get at least 2 or more emails a week from loyal customers with links to shops selling rips of my bots. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but this is becoming increasingly frustrating. I spend a lot of time coming up with my designs, reading suggestions and creating customs just to have them stolen and claimed by someone else. Outside of the creative aspect this is my livelihood. I do not have another job. I devote all my time to Sleepy Robot 13. I love making them, but they are also how I pay my rent and bills.

I understand that there are a lot of people "borrowing" each others photos on Etsy (Which is bad), but blatantly stealing someone else's work is just wrong.

Custom Items Update

Hi guys! I just wanted to give everyone a quick update regarding custom orders. Due to the high volume of orders I've been receiving and the upcoming holiday season, I will not be taking any new custom item requests until mid January 2012. This includes wedding orders of all kinds. If you sent me a request before 08/04/2011 and confirmed that you were ok with the time frame/price you have been added to the waiting list and will be receiving your custom item(s) by September 15, 2011. I apologize to everyone who has sent me requests over the last week and to anyone who was planning to order custom items for Christmas gifts. Unfortunately I am only one person and there are only so many hours in a day:(

Hello everybody! I really need your help! Sleepy Robot 13 has been chosen as one of the finalists of the 11th Idea Cafe Cash Grant! Voting for the 1st round ends July 31st!

My goal right now is to expand Sleepy Robot 13. Over the next year I hope to accomplish the following:

*Rent a store front/office/studio space

*Begin offering Sleepy Robot 13 products to retail stores & sites
* Travel to other cities for conventions and industry functions
* Offer craft business seminars locally and online
*a children's book based on Sleepy Robot 13 Characters
*Produce a Sleepy Robot 13 Calendar
*Sleepy Robot 13 T-shirts
* And soooooo much more that I can't even get into right now.

The one thing all of the above takes is money... which I do not have much of. I have been very fortunate to get my business off the ground with very little start up cost, but now in order to grow I am in need of capital.

Canadian Shipping

As of 06/17/2011 I have been made aware that after this date there will be no more shipping to Canada due to the recent postal strike there. I asked a worker at my local post office how long this hold on Canadian mailing would last and she said hopefully only a week, but she wasn't sure. If you have placed an order to Canada after 06/17/2011 please be aware I will ship your order as soon as US postal is accepting Canadian mailings again.

Each 3" body is hand sculpted from vinyl clay and hand painted. The faces are printed on plastic to ensure the continuity of each figure and placed in a handmade, signed and numbered boxes.

Since my waiting list is starting to get impossibly long, I will NOT be taking any new custom item requests until further notice. Yes this includes wedding orders. Once I begin taking requests again I will post that information here.
